Gorgeous Gifts

At the end of last year I was looking for something quick and easy to make friends for Christmas... and I found these.

The tutorials for the key ring and tissue holder are really easy and great for scraps (and for practicing sewing a straight line!) I love the idea that the key ring chain (the material bit) can be slipped over your wrist or hung easily on a hook. And my tissues are always ending up all shredded and dirty, so putting them in the holder protects them, and looks gorgeous at the same time.

The key ring is from The Idea Room, and the tutorial can be found here. This has got to be another one of my favourite blogs as their are heaps of great tutorials, and her instructions are clear and easy. I also love her fabric choices - helps me think outside the square and not get too matchy.

The tissue holder is from Whip Up and the tutorial is here. Again, another easy one, and I think together they make a cute pressie for someones handbag. The one above is for my sister's birthday tomorrow so I hope she'll like it!

Now I just need to get around to making one for me!

Play Room Storage

Yes, it's another storage solution! But these are just gorgeous and have been up for a while, so thought I should add them to the blog.

Being a follower of Make it Perfect I've checked out all Toni's tutorials and this one for 'Peek-a-Boo Toy Sacks' was high on the list. The see through front is perfect for toys - Emma can see what's in each one and decide what she'd like to play with. I also took my fabric choice cue from Toni - bright colours look great!

So here they are hanging on the wall in the toy room... and one on the floor!

We've got one for the magnetic letters, one for play dough, one for all the plastic food and one for some colouring in - perfect for taking with us if I think Emma might need an activity while we're waiting somewhere.

I have few more ideas for these, so you may see a few other iterations throughout the year!

Storage Baskets

I love storage, so when I found a tutorial for storage boxes at jcaroline creative I saved the link ready for the perfect opportunity.

With bub's arrival just around the corner I was thinking about the room and how to decorate it. I really didn't do much for Emma's room, but with a new house I've found a greater interest in decorating. I decided I'd love to do a red theme (which has been a really hard choice - everybody only ever makes baby stuff in pastels!!!) and that the storage boxes would fit perfectly. So here they are...

This was a little harder than I originally thought - mostly because I thought I could get away with using interfacing instead of the stabiliser listed in the tutorial. And because I used one directional fabric. And because they had a definite horizontal pattern. And because I used ribbon for the handles instead of webbing. But, if you take all this into account, I think they turned out pretty well!

I must secretly admit that I think this would look great for a boys room, but we'll just have to wait and see! I have a few more projects for the baby's room on the list, so will have to get cracking if I'm going to get it done before March 24!
