On a normal day I'd believe it, but on Father's Day I'm reminded how it often isn't 'their time' but it happens anyway.<br />
<br />
In 2009 my Dad died after an 'accident' in hospital, a series of mistakes and misjudgements that meant that my sister and I had to make the drive to the hospital for one last visit before the machines were turned off and the tiny spec of Dad that remained left too.<br />
<br />
I don't intend to mislead you. Dad was old and frail. He'd blacked out in the car one week before and drove into a power pole. He seemed vague and forgetful, and I had started to think that maybe he couldn't stay at home alone any more. He just wasn't well. Then one morning he called and said he wasn't good, and I told him to get off the phone and I'd call an ambulance. I told him I would see him at the hospital. I never saw 'him' again.<br />
<br />
But then they didn't want me to come to the hospital until he was on a ward, hearing my baby in the back ground and saying they'd call me, he was alright. I should have forced the issue, gone anyway, but I had no idea of what was coming so I didn't. And then there was the brief phone call from an un-named nurse who said 'They've overdosed him' and it all just went to hell. If it had not been for that man, whomever he was, telling me the truth of it, I may well have bought the stories and lies they told until they were forced to tell the truth.<br />
<br />
When they briefly got him back after the overdose he said he wanted to go home, but they didn't let him. He said he wanted me but I was never called. Instead they told him to lie down and wait, to be patient. But he didn't want to... scared, alone, angry, frightened... and when he took off his oxygen mask there was no one there to stop him or help him or explain that he wouldn't survive without it... and he didn't.<br />
<br />
I feel a huge weight of responsibility for his death; knowing I sent him to that place. That I believed them when they said he was alright. That I didn't just go there anyway when they said to stay at home with my baby. My baby who hardly knew her Grandad before he left. Four years and I doubt it will ever leave me.<br />
<br />
I remember he said Emma was the happiest baby he'd ever seen. He was so proud. I wish he had been here to meet Harry. To be proud again.<br />
<br />
My little family are in bed as I'm typing, knowing I've been silent and thoughtful this afternoon as I run over it all again in my mind. Familiar thoughts that sneak in when ever I see a burgundy sedan or an old man in a flannelette shirt and trousers. When birthdays and holidays pass, or it comes round to Fathers Day again and I miss him.<br />

I'd been lamenting the lack of gorgeous stuff to be found locally and Mum mentioned that she'd visited a shop in Seaforth (on the Northern Beaches) years ago that had loads of choices, and she'd find me the details. A friend of hers confirmed the name Bargain Upholstery and we headed there with fingers crossed.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/bargainupholstery_zpsf7ac4b9d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo bargainupholstery_zpsf7ac4b9d.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/bargainupholstery_zpsf7ac4b9d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We arrived just before the doors opened and honestly I nearly jumped out of the car in excitement. There were six shops in a row, packed to the roof with rolls and rolls of upholstery fabric, and in the windows I could see that they were going to have something perfect!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/bargainupholstery2_zps5f6ad863.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo bargainupholstery2_zps5f6ad863.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/bargainupholstery2_zps5f6ad863.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course I've ordered loads of fabric online, from both Australia and overseas, but nothing beats being there in person to look at and feel the fabric. There was so much to look at - loads of remnants that I could have spent the day sifting through as well as books and books of designer stuff to order from. Prices seemed to start at about $19.95 a metre, and for anything on the roll you could get as little as 20cm.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/bargainupholstery5_zps433c9535.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/bargainupholstery8_zps64bac8d2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo bargainupholstery8_zps64bac8d2.jpg" border="0" height="213" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/bargainupholstery8_zps64bac8d2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
If I was adding to the stash I would have been hard pressed to make a decision but because I had specific projects in mind I picked out these three...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/017_zpsaa3c1f23.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 017_zpsaa3c1f23.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/017_zpsaa3c1f23.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Ok, so the one on the far right isn't actually for a project, but for arguments sake lets just say I know exactly what I will be using it for and it was essential that I came home with it ;)<br />
<br />
If you're like me then this place is difficult if you're children are prone to do this...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/bargainupholstery7_zps853a6df5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo bargainupholstery7_zps853a6df5.jpg" border="0" height="296" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/bargainupholstery7_zps853a6df5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Because it is six separate shops in a row the kids thought it was hilarious to run in and out of each one, hide under fabric or climb onto the rolls. Me, not so much. I was excited to see a park nearby and the plan had been to let them run it out before visiting, but it's not one aimed at their age bracket (4 and 2) and it was SO windy that we decided to just head in and try our luck. <br />
<br />
So I will definitely go again. Next time sans children! If you're looking for upholstery fabric in Sydney then this place is worth having a look.<br />

<br />
This week has been a crazy mix of spray paint, liquid nails and some VERY cool finds. This bit of fabulousness started it all off...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/002_zps042f8401.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 002_zps042f8401.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/002_zps042f8401.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
Would you believe I had been sitting at my laptop wishing I could find another amazing cane piece to makeover, got up, got the kids in the car, drove down the street and picked up this girl. I can't even tell you how I got it home... another crazy driving episode that just proves my crazy obsession with furniture I suppose! I've given her a coat of primer and she is already looking better, can't wait to share the finished product!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/012_zpsb7350132.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 012_zpsb7350132.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/012_zpsb7350132.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've added to the collection of pieces for my Rust-Oleum spray paint project this week with this beauty! By the weekend she will be a gorgeous glossy apple red! I've still got a couple of pieces still to find for this one, so will be on the hunt over the weekend. I've finished two pieces almost three, here they are up on the shelf waiting for some finishing touches and then their big moment in September (i.e The Better Homes and Gardens Show).<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/004_zps9ff8c1ba.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 004_zps9ff8c1ba.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/004_zps9ff8c1ba.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
The colours are just amazing!! And speaking of colour, I've been playing with some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - this time layering French Linen and Duck Egg on the shutters I picked up last week... <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/001_zpsfb12fd40.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/shutters_zps0dd80f39.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo shutters_zps0dd80f39.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/shutters_zps0dd80f39.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
Last but not least I've been busy working on a new look for my business, getting ready for a new website, logo and a little name change. I had no idea where to start by luckily a friend recommended someone to help me, and here's a little insight...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/logo2_zps566c6c6b.png.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo logo2_zps566c6c6b.png" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/logo2_zps566c6c6b.png" width="390" /></a></div>
<br />
Luckily I have another friend who is my own personal social media expert (Hi Sally if you're reading) and she's helping me with everything else! Hopefully all will be revealed in the next couple of weeks ! Thanks for stopping by...<br />

<br />
A couple of nights before my last market I was looking at a sad old picture
frame in my hoard and suddenly thought it was the perfect size and shape for a whiteboard.
In particular, a white board to use in the kitchen for your shopping list. That
first one sold quickly and I had loads of inquiries, so here I am making
another, and sharing it with you too. It's SO simple to make but looks great!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/whiteboardproject5_zpsc762b053.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo whiteboardproject5_zpsc762b053.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/whiteboardproject5_zpsc762b053.jpg" width="264" /></a></div>
<br />
For me the key is getting the right frame. Funnily enough, this is the second
Libra starsign frame I've found at an op shop, same size same shape. I guess
all the Libras on the Central Coast are doing a clean out ;) I paid $10, which
I thought was Ok but if you look around you could probably find something for
$5.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/whiteboardproject_zps560b1a7a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo whiteboardproject_zps560b1a7a.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/whiteboardproject_zps560b1a7a.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I simply pulled the poster from the backing board, but it really isn't
necessary, you could just stick your fabric over the top. For me, the fabric is really what makes it. Something with a pattern is
great, but not too fussy that you can't see what's written on the glass. Use
colour, but nothing too dark unless you have a white texta (hmmm I might need
to try that!).
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/whiteboardproject2_zps4cfe4866.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo
whiteboardproject2_zps4cfe4866.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/whiteboardproject2_zps4cfe4866.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Be careful to stick your fabric down flat, otherwise you'll see ripples through your glass. And don't forget to give your glass a good clean - I thought I was all done then when I turned the frame over there was a big black spec on the glass that would have just driven me insane! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/whiteboardproject3_zps88ec74de.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo
whiteboardproject3_zps88ec74de.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/whiteboardproject3_zps88ec74de.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted my frame to look worn and weathered, so I gave it just one coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White before waxing. <br />
<br />
Of course you could use it as a to do list in a study or instead of a chalk
board in a children's play room (who else hates the chalk dust everywhere???)
Whatever you use it for, it's a cheap project and something that looks great
too!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
So - have you worked out why this post was late and things went wrong.... do you guess from that very first picture? Or can you see it in this last picture???<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/whiteboardproject4_zps18fe82c6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo whiteboardproject4_zps18fe82c6.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/whiteboardproject4_zps18fe82c6.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
Yep. Sums it up really. I was rushing to get it done and feeling just generally frustrated and annoyed with other events of the day, and I broke the glass. ARGH!!!!! Lucky for me I have chocolate.... and chalk board paint ;) I was going to just let the project go and then thought I'd share anyway - project fails happen to all of us right??<br />
<br />
Hope you've had a bit more luck with your projects this week!! Thanks for stopping by...<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/frenchlinentable_zps9f2e92db.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo frenchlinentable_zps9f2e92db.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/frenchlinentable_zps9f2e92db.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
When I saw this gorgeous table, along with her 'cousin', for sale on Gumtree, I knew I'd never be able to give her away. Her previous owner had named her Daisy after the relative who had passed her on, and the other table, Ruth, is still in my garage waiting for something special. The lady said she was sick of all her old, hand me down furniture and couldn't wait to go out and purchase something new. I couldn't wait to get these hand me downs home!! Here she is before...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/171_zpsd2c64a12.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 171_zpsd2c64a12.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/171_zpsd2c64a12.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Her shape is beautiful but the dark stain was a little sad and sorry, and peeling in areas. She had a few dings, but don't we all?? When I bought her home I was thinking about my grandparents home, and sure they had something similar. Mum confirmed it, another reason I couldn't really let her go. Nice to have something that reminds me of them.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/frenchlinentable3_zps72a0590b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo frenchlinentable3_zps72a0590b.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/frenchlinentable3_zps72a0590b.jpg" width="284" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the height she has - curvy legs are perfect on everyone aren't they!! At the moment she's displaying some favourite family photos, but eventually she'll hold a lamp and a few odds and ends. And that little shelf at the bottom? Perfect!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/frenchlinentable1_zps542d3fa3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo frenchlinentable1_zps542d3fa3.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/frenchlinentable1_zps542d3fa3.jpg" width="267" /> </a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Are you wondering about the 'e'?? Emma was here with me while I was trying to take photos. Her contribution was to lay all over the table and display herself. She's four. I said no. So, the compromise was an 'e' front and centre. And after the process it took just to get these photos, I decided that an 'e' on the table works just fine. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also included one of my latest etsy purchases - a print by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/au/shop/thewheatfield" target="_blank">Katie Daisy</a>. I just love her work, the colour is beautiful and just makes me smile when I see it. Nice to have things like these round. </div>

I'm SO glad I did.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/FrenchFolie1_zps56f4ce97.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/FrenchFolie1_zps2006faf3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo FrenchFolie1_zps2006faf3.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/FrenchFolie1_zps2006faf3.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<br />
Before I saw the sign I saw the bedhead and knew I was in the right place. And the squares on either side of the door? Dead giveaway! It was all just amazing and I hardly know where to begin... I mean this upholstered chair and bedhead were in the window!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/FrenchFolie4_zpsef99810a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo FrenchFolie4_zpsef99810a.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/FrenchFolie4_zpsef99810a.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The owners really are so knowledgeable about everything Annie Sloan and I chatted with Mike for at least an hour about colours and washes and every other thing paint. I think I stood at this amoirie staring like an idiot for ages thinking about colours and being completely indecisive. In the end though I went to get Paris Grey I came home with French Linen, Provence (my fave), Florence and clear wax. Not bad for just desperately needing some wax!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/frenchfolie2_zps04af3a8d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo frenchfolie2_zps04af3a8d.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/frenchfolie2_zps04af3a8d.jpg" width="261" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There were a couple of things I loved about the shop. There were heaps of pieces painted in Annie Sloan paint, so you could see something painted up and in real life, without trying to guess from the paint chart. This really helped me when thinking about grey. AND I thought I would <i>like </i>Florence and then when I saw their counter I knew I <i>loved </i>it. I just wish I'd snapped a picture.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/fremchfolie3_zpsbfa5bcf3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo fremchfolie3_zpsbfa5bcf3.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/fremchfolie3_zpsbfa5bcf3.jpg" width="300" /> </a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
The other great thing is that they will decant paint so you can get half a tin. Perfect if you're looking at an accent colour and not sure that you will use it again. Or if you're trying to spread your paint budget further! I ended up getting half a tin of Florence just in case I keel over when I start using it... unlikely, but you know ;)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/fremchfolie5_zps93499c6b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo fremchfolie5_zps93499c6b.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/fremchfolie5_zps93499c6b.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The store also had loads of french vintage to look at, linen, furniture, posters everything. There was a class just about to start so people were filing in with their pieces ready to try out the paint. If you're interested, they run them every two weeks on a Sunday.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In case you're wondering, I didn't even tell the guys I blogged let alone asked them for something in return for a post. I just like sharing :) </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So now if we could get Miss Mustard Seeds Milk Paint in Australia (and preferably somewhere I can drive to) all my paint dreams would have come true! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Thanks for stopping by...</div>

<br />
These two tables would have to be amongst my most favourite finds. I did share them on facebook a little while ago and started on the one on the right yesterday. I'm keeping her. I think. You know how it is! I would also keep the other one, but I keep telling myself that if I ever want a studio or a shop I actually need something to sell! Funny that. The other I'll be working on next week...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/lamptables_zpsd4ffac0c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo lamptables_zpsd4ffac0c.jpg" border="0" height="320" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/lamptables_zpsd4ffac0c.jpg" width="640" /></a> <a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/158_zps0f48b88e.jpg.html" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"></a> </div>
<br />
I've also been busy working on my new project... I'm working on some pieces for Rustoleum ready for The Better Homes and Gardens show in September.<br />
<br />
I KNOW!!!!<br />
<br />
I can't believe it myself, this is such an amazing opportunity and I'm really thrilled to get involved.... Every time I think about it I have to try not to to do a ridiculous dance and smile that goofy smile of someone who is getting to do stuff they love. Rustoleum own Zinnser who produce the undercoat I always use, so it was a no brainer when they asked me. ASKED ME! If you don't get the idea, I'm overwhelmingly stoked (yes, I'm that age in case you're wondering!!) I have cans and cans of spray paint ready to go and here are some of the pieces I'll be making over for them.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/rustoleum_zpsbeec258a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo rustoleum_zpsbeec258a.jpg" border="0" height="213" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/rustoleum_zpsbeec258a.jpg" width="640" /></a> <a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/011_zpsfe146280.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a> <a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/010_zpsdc3128ec.jpg.html" target="_blank"><br /></a></div>
<br />
The specific product I'm using hasn't been launched in Australia yet, but will be here later in the year. Can't wait to share more about this, but until then my lips are sealed :) Oh, except that when you think of spray paint and think of the hopelessly daggy colours you find in your local Bunnings??? This is NOT that :) If you're planning to come along to the show please let me know. I'm hoping to go along and help at the Rustoleum stand and would love to have some visitors!!<br />
<br />
I also shared this beauty on Facebook and I think it was my most popular piece ever. She is completely beyond painting, rusted through in places and I don't know that I would let anyone sit on her, but she is completely gorgeous and has found a perfect place in my garden. I probably need to prune a little around her, but you get the idea!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ironbench_zps8ddcdc5f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ironbench_zps8ddcdc5f.jpg" border="0" height="320" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ironbench_zps8ddcdc5f.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When I picked her up the girl giving her away was beside herself. She had to start clearing stuff out and this was on the list. Except she loved it. I have that feeling ALL THE TIME. I promised it was going to a very loving home.<br />
<br />
And here are a few other goodies I've found ready to make over...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/thriftyfindscollage_zps1d071abe.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo thriftyfindscollage_zps1d071abe.jpg" border="0" height="640" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/thriftyfindscollage_zps1d071abe.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The orange chair has a partner in the garage, but quite honestly I would have needed to move EVERYTHING to get to her, so you'll have to take my word for it. I'm thinking charcoal geometric pattern. Frames for blackboards and whiteboards, a rusty lamp that was on the side of the road (and still works), and a drop leaf table someone was using to prop up their dryer (can you believe that!!!). Lots of lovelies to get stuck in to.<br />
<br />
What about you? Had any great finds lately?<br />

I have SO much in my garage that it just seemed to be a good idea. Then sorting through my fabric I found a gorgeous graphic piece that I thought would be perfect and the chair suddenly worked its way to the top of the list.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/RetroChair_zps619a95e6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo RetroChair_zps619a95e6.jpg" border="0" height="200" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/RetroChair_zps619a95e6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The original vinyl was covered in paint (not me I promise!) and a layer of grime, but now I think she's looking pretty good ;)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/retrodiningchair_zps20f617ce.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo retrodiningchair_zps20f617ce.jpg" border="0" height="310" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/retrodiningchair_zps20f617ce.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Ok - I know you're thinking that butlers tray needs some paint. It's on the list! <br />
<br />
For me the fabric makes all the difference... the style is gorgeous but vinyl doesn't really do it for me! This beautiful fabric was given to me by a very dear friend and her Mum - if your reading along thank you MJ and Judith!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/fabriccloseup_zps6fcdf651.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo fabriccloseup_zps6fcdf651.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/fabriccloseup_zps6fcdf651.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried to convince DK (my husband) that this would be perfect for his desk but he has this giant monstrosity of an office that he likes. I'm not even going to share a photo of it it's that bad. The kids have even drawn on it and he still loves it. One day when he's not looking it may just disappear...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/retrodiningchair1_zps3e4710ea.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo retrodiningchair1_zps3e4710ea.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/retrodiningchair1_zps3e4710ea.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The chair is very Parker-esq but I'm not sure. I haven't been able to match it to anything I've seen on line, and there are no details anywhere I can see on the actual chair. Still, I don't think it needs a brand to make it beautiful, just a re-stain and new fabric!</div>

This week I have her taller, and stripier, sister.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/stripeysidetable3_zps4d55e4bc.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo stripeysidetable3_zps4d55e4bc.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/stripeysidetable3_zps4d55e4bc.jpg" width="271" /></a></div>
<br />
As I was working on her everything seemed to go wrong - I'd set up a bunch of activities for Harry (2) so I could do a final coat of white paint, but the only thing he was interested in was what I was doing! When I wasn't watching he was running his fingers across the paint, making lovely little snail trails everywhere! Then he lent on the table and had paint smudges all over his shirt. So I gave up.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/stripeysidetable2_zps0a06e81d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo stripeysidetable2_zps0a06e81d.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/stripeysidetable2_zps0a06e81d.jpg" width="264" /></a></div>
<br />
And in that moment when I walked away, while watching Harry jump on the trampoline and we played in the garden, I realised that stripes would be perfect for this little white table. So I added them during his sleep time and I couldn't be happier.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/stripeysidetable_zps56f0832f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo stripeysidetable_zps56f0832f.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/stripeysidetable_zps56f0832f.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
I guess some things just need to be left for a moment! This table went home with a lovely lady I met at the markets over the weekend. She told me she loves everything french, and grey, and though this was perfect! I love it when people fall in love with something I've reworked, make the hours in the garage, the trek out to market and all the related guff worth it.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/JulyMarket_zps53738f91.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo JulyMarket_zps53738f91.jpg" border="0" height="251" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/JulyMarket_zps53738f91.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This month's market will actually be my last one for a little while. I have a great new project to get started on (more about that soon) which will mean I can't make the August or September dates. Will keep you posted about when I'll be there again :)<br />

Or that I liked distressed. So this girl really is a no brainer...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/DuckEggSideTable_zpsa4c25b3f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DuckEggSideTable_zpsa4c25b3f.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/DuckEggSideTable_zpsa4c25b3f.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
I just can't help myself. I look at all the lovely colours available, even the ones I have on my shelf, and still I go back to blue. And if I wanted shiny new looking I could get it from a shop - give me a bit of character any day!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/duckeggsidetable2_zpscc832371.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo duckeggsidetable2_zpscc832371.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/duckeggsidetable2_zpscc832371.jpg" width="322" /></a></div>
<br />
I picked this girl up from the auction house near me, and she's actually been sitting raw in my lounge room for a month or so. But as I'm getting ready for Avoca Beachside Markets, and also had to clear everything from the house while the bamboo floors were laid, it was finally her turn to get a makeover. As much as I like her I've decided to take her to the market.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/duckeggsidetable3_zps1872834c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo duckeggsidetable3_zps1872834c.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/duckeggsidetable3_zps1872834c.jpg" width="271" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm other news I've decided only to do the market four times a year. I just can't get enough stock ready to do it every month, and while my sister never complains, asking her to come up from Sydney every month to help me is hard. We do have a lovely day, and get to meet loads of people, but it's hard going without a truck and while my children are small. And it's so cold in the garage during winter!!! Last night I got all organised, took one step into the garage and raced back inside and in front of the heater! Things may change next year when Harry is at pre-school two days a week, but for now I'm looking at two more market dates for the rest of the year. You can always find pieces for sale <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/p/for-sale.html" target="_blank">here</a>, or on my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PaisleyVintage" target="_blank">Facebook </a>page.<br />
<br />
One day when I have a shop (just putting it out there, because you know, you never know!) I will have a studio attached that is nice and warm and I can work there and show finished pieces and have a crafty painty kind of group... and a million other things. One day.<br />
<br />

When we bought our house nearly three years ago the cream tile and carpet were not my cup of tea, but the space was amazing and I knew eventually we would replace them. We chose bamboo for a couple of reasons... it was great deal cheaper than traditional hard woods, it's a more environmentally friendly option (faster growth cycle than timber) and it looks great. We had simply gotten to the point where the floors were a real eyesore and something had to be done. Don't talk to me about saving a little longer to get the more expensive product... if you had seen our carpets you would understand!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/floors5_zps738773d4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo floors5_zps738773d4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/floors5_zps738773d4.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Last week at my place</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The process has been the usual kind of frustrating experience. Ours was not the most straight forward job; we had a combination of tiles and carpeted areas that needed covering (meaning the floors had to be leveled, shown in the picture below), tiny little skirting boards that would all need to be replaced, a dishwasher that filled the space and meant boards couldn't go underneath, and doors that needed to be cut down. Loads of lovely challenges and what I would have thought were dollar signs hanging over my head, and which I thought would mean people would be jumping at the work.<br />
<br />

I visited four different stores to get them to come out and provide quotes. The first came out and realised it was all a bit too hard for him and tried to convince me to only get half the space done (just the carpeted area, and not the tiled ones) and in the end, didn't ever produce a quote. The second one tried to push a different product (vinyl, not what I was looking for) and then emailed me what seemed to be a random figure without explanation. The third was over an hour late to visit and then kept talking about how difficult it all was. Not a single one followed up to see if we wanted to go ahead.<br />

The guys we went with had just amazing service (and they aren't paying me to say that). I expected Harvey Norman to be way too expensive and really not care about our sale but I couldn't have been more wrong. They were here when they said they would be. They actually knew alot about the product. They answered our questions. They followed up to find out what we thought about the product and about the price. We told them repeatedly how different the experience we'd had with them had been to all the others, and this swayed our decision in the end.<br />

<br />
Unfortunately, installation has been awful. The combination of perpetual lateness and finishing early has been truly frustrating. If you tell a Mum with small children you will be here at 8am during school holidays, so she madly races round getting people ready, furniture moved, cars relocated and the children ready to go out for the day rather than be under the tradies feet, and then arrive at 10am - things are NOT starting well. If you then leave at 12 noon because 'that's all you can do' things are getting worse. And then when you don't finish in the five days you say you will, well, what can I say.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Entry</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<br />
Today was supposed to be D-Day, but since I had other appointments during the day (ok, we were going to The Wiggles at 9am), I wanted to be sure he was coming when he said he would (7am) and be finished when he said he would (8.30am). Of course what was 'max 2 hours left' suddenly became '4 or 5... will have to see mate' so it' still not finished.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg.html" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg" width="267" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">That needs painting...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<br />
I'm so in love with the finished product but I find it hard to recommend the business when the installation let them down. I KNOW its subcontracted out. I KNOW we could have jumped up and down during the process. I remind myself that it is livable right now and that I am lucky to have all I have (and chocolate helps too).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/floors_zps73742ed9.jpg.html" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo floors_zps73742ed9.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/floors_zps73742ed9.jpg" width="269" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So tomorrow, at 7am, the installer should be back to finish. Oh, and give me his bill... If you see smoke coming from Chittaway Point on Friday night I will have spontaneously combusted because it still isn't finished. Cross fingers!</div>

Getting our floors leveled and new bamboo flooring laid was always going to be a big project, but even with school holidays (so my husband was home throughout) living on the cement slab, or the newly poured cement, has been a 'challenge'. A five day project became six days and counting as it's still unfinished. I have no doubt it will get finished, given we haven't paid for installation yet, but it feels like it's dragged on FOR EVER!! Hopefully Thursday will bring an end. In the meantime...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/floors_zps73742ed9.jpg.html" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo floors_zps73742ed9.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/floors_zps73742ed9.jpg" width="269" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/floors2_zpsdb7985c6.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
So what I have actually finished is this Aubusson Blue Desk :) I picked up this Annie Sloan colour by mistake - in my rush and crazy kid wrangling I was intending to get Napoleon Blue but came home with this one instead. And I'm so happy I did... it must have been meant to be.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/aubussonbluedesk_zps9b3bc12e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo aubussonbluedesk_zps9b3bc12e.jpg" border="0" height="285" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/aubussonbluedesk_zps9b3bc12e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After spending a bit of time sanding the table top I decided I loved the grain and wanted to let it show through, but avoid any kind of orange pine reference (it's probably becoming a phobia). So I used a very light white wash (made using my Annie Sloan Pure White). I think it gives it quite an aged look with I love.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/aubussonbluedesk5_zpsb202b37a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo aubussonbluedesk5_zpsb202b37a.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/aubussonbluedesk5_zpsb202b37a.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
The knobs I've had for ages - purchased online for a writing table that they just weren't right for. I think the bleached white colour looks great against the blue, and I love the floral piece on top.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/aubussonbluedesk3_zps8335d89d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo aubussonbluedesk3_zps8335d89d.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/aubussonbluedesk3_zps8335d89d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
One of my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PaisleyVintage" target="_blank">Facebook </a>friends suggested this would be perfect for extra kitchen bench space and I agree - very farmhouse kitchen in my mind. She's very lightly distressed, just enough to show contrast. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintagedesk_zpsbe2ca3bf.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintagedesk_zpsbe2ca3bf.jpg" border="0" height="258" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintagedesk_zpsbe2ca3bf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I was so excited to pick up this desk, I loved the legs and the arch in the middle, the lovely legs, even the drawer pulls. The man selling it was moving his parents to a retirement village and it was one of the last pieces to go - lucky me! That said, if you remember back when I shared the before photo you'll know there's a story that comes with this girl! When I arrived to collect her I had misjudged her size and spent an hour or so freaking out about getting her in the car. Here she is before...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vanitydesk2_zps50359c02.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vanitydesk2_zps50359c02.jpg" border="0" height="297" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vanitydesk2_zps50359c02.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The desk was a good price because the original featured a framed mirror, but the frame had broken - see that piece sticking up on the right hand side in the picture above? On the left it was twice as long, and was definitely not going to let me get her in the car. Long story short, I looked around and the only thing for it was to knock on someones door and ask for a saw, and and cut those things off!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintagedesk2_zpsff50192d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintagedesk2_zpsff50192d.jpg" border="0" height="294" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintagedesk2_zpsff50192d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The poor man that lent me his saw must have thought I was a crazy woman. I arrived on his door step, tears streaming, with a two year old (who'd be chasing his cat), and asking if I could borrow a saw. Thankfully he handed it over. Actually, he offered to do it for me, but honestly this was an elderly man and I couldn't let him.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintagedesk3_zps5dc4506d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintagedesk3_zps5dc4506d.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintagedesk3_zps5dc4506d.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
So after all that to get her home, I've used Annie Sloan Pure White and Duck Egg Blue on this girl. She is distressed, though not heavily, just enough to highlight her features. I haven't filled dings or scratches, this girl wears her age beautifully ;)<br />
<br />
I did initially plan to leave the drawer fronts original wood, however they were quite uneven round the edges so decided to work with it. Painting and distressing those edges has worked beautifully.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintqagedesk4_zpsaf784365.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintqagedesk4_zpsaf784365.jpg" border="0" height="254" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintqagedesk4_zpsaf784365.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Work started today on our new flooring, hence the photos of this desk on our driveway. Our house is a construction site; DK and I have just pulled the lounge out on to the cement slab ready for tonight and then we'll put it back in the garage in the morning. Almost everything else is crammed into bedrooms, bathrooms, or the laundry.Hopefully I'll have something other than a cement slab to share soon :)<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/009_zps637c8659.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 009_zps637c8659.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/009_zps637c8659.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In 2009 we moved into a new home (the one above), one that stretched the budget a little but that had all the space we'd been looking for. My husband and I had long talks about our budget, and it was pretty clear that we wouldn't be getting any cool new furniture for our new home any time soon. So of course I had to get creative. At the same time I was discovering the amazing blogging world and finding blogs like <a href="http://missmustardseed.com/" target="_blank">Miss Mustard Seed</a>, <a href="http://www.vintagerevivals.com/" target="_blank">Vintage Revivals</a> and <a href="http://primitiveandproper.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Primitive & Proper</a> and with their amazing tutorials, instructions, and inspiration I got stuck in.<br />
<br />
I absolutely love the hunt; walking in to an op shop and finding that amazing piece that would look beautiful with a coat of paint. Or searching facebook sites to find pieces, like this lovely piece of orangeness I picked up this week...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/Desk_zps01e1df3b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Desk_zps01e1df3b.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/Desk_zps01e1df3b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And I'm a regular now at the local silent auction house, where I scored this coffee table... check out her legs!!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/019_zpsf732f777.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 019_zpsf732f777.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/019_zpsf732f777.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
And I picked up this great cane chest too. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/015_zpse218fd80.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 015_zpse218fd80.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/015_zpse218fd80.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
There are a million things I would still love to change about my home. I have an orange dining table. I have the worlds ugliest brown microfibre lounge. But I'm slowly chipping away. In the next few weeks the ugly tiles and stained carpet will leave the building, and all new bamboo flooring will be installed. Can't wait.And will definitely share.<br />
<br />
Then hopefully I get to work on that orange dining table. :)<br />
<br />
PS - If you're local to the Central Coast I'm having a garage sale via <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PaisleyVintage" target="_blank">facebook </a>tonight. There are some great vintage finds that I've just never gotten round to working on, or that I've just got no room for. I'd love to see you there.<br />

I finished this two tone cabinet over the weekend and couldn't be happier. I used my new favourite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Duck Egg on the frame, and Pure White on the drawer and the inside of the cabinet... I've always been a bit of a fan of two tone and this just makes me do a little dance :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="http://s563.photobucket.com/user/emmas-mum/media/cabinet2.jpg.html%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss77/emmas-mum/cabinet2.jpg%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%20photo%20cabinet2.jpg%22/%3E%3C/a%3E" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a>The lady I bought it from originally had decided it was just too dark for her home, and I couldn't agree more. That dark style, in a darker hall way or room would mean the cabinet would just fade into the background or make a big black hole in the corner. With a paint makeover she definitely doesn't fade! Here's her 'before' shot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/cabinet5_zps2f69a1ec.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo cabinet5_zps2f69a1ec.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/cabinet5_zps2f69a1ec.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This was my first time using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White. I had asked around (Fiona from Lilyfield Life and Courts from Apprentice Extrovert) about Old White and decided that the creamy hue wasn't right for me, and went for Pure White instead. As suggested to me, it did need several coats even just for the 'rustic' kind of look that I go for. If I wanted a better coverage I would definitely need an undercoat.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s563.photobucket.com/user/emmas-mum/media/cabinet2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo cabinet2.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss77/emmas-mum/cabinet2.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<br />
I love this for a entry or the end of a hall way. Even sitting in my lounge room I can see how she could display some lovely china, or even books (almost everything at my place has books!).<br />

Getting to the bathroom sink or the kitchen bench are impossible without them when your 4. Or 2, though Harry is still learning these things. So a week or so I made the trek to Ikea and picked up two for home.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ikeastepstoolworkinprogress_zpsd8a63b47.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ikeastepstoolworkinprogress_zpsd8a63b47.jpg" border="0" height="393" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ikeastepstoolworkinprogress_zpsd8a63b47.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Because they come raw and un-assembled they are just perfect for painting, and a really quick and easy project. I stained the steps and then painted the frame without having to work around every tiny angle, and had them done on the kitchen bench in no time. And when I compare the $15 I spent (plus paint) to the $100+ I'd seen similar for in homewares stores, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/stepstool_zps04553821.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo stepstool_zps04553821.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/stepstool_zps04553821.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I painted one in ASCP Provence (the first picture) and one in ASCP Duck Egg (above), and I love them both. Since I'm a blue kind of person I love them in these shades, but I can see these in bright primary colours for kids rooms or play rooms too. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/stepstool2_zps00c4524c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo stepstool2_zps00c4524c.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/stepstool2_zps00c4524c.jpg" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
They've already had a bit of a work out here - mostly from Harry who thinks it's hilarious to stand at the bench and touch all those things I had up high and out of his reach. Or to grab the popcorn and cookies we made this morning and try to sneak away with them. HILARIOUS.<br />
<br />
On another note, with Google Reader closing down, I'm wondering what you're all doing to keep up with the blogs you follow? I've loaded up Bloglovin', and you can follow along using it via the link in my side bar, but is there anything else on offer that I should be considering? <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/upholsteredottoman_zps5da91b64.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo upholsteredottoman_zps5da91b64.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/upholsteredottoman_zps5da91b64.jpg" width="279" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you've been around for a little while you will have noticed that I love ottomans. Not just any kind of ottoman, but one made out of a coffee table. And not just any coffee table either. It has to be free, or cheap. Like $5. Take this one for example..<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/coffeetableoutthedoor_zps417f5967.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo coffeetableoutthedoor_zps417f5967.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/coffeetableoutthedoor_zps417f5967.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Sometimes I see things on the side of the road and I can't leave them behind. So they come home with me any way they can. Including in the passenger seat, hanging out just a little. It's all about the CRAZY in this place :)<br />
<br />
So I've mentioned before that the best coffee tables for these ottomans are those that have a good lip to work with - you need something that will let you staple your fabric underneath, neatly, and without too much hassle. Like this...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/coffeetablelip_zps1bf44d9c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo coffeetablelip_zps1bf44d9c.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/coffeetablelip_zps1bf44d9c.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I also prefer those that have a shelf underneath, but that's a taste thing rather than a function thing. The more storage the better in this house! I also think the shelf balances out the bulk of the upholstered top, again, it's a taste thing more than anything else. I always paint first, here is the table all painted up and ready to go... (I've been painting inside because it's so COLD in the garage!!)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/coffeetabletoottomanconversion_zps975f72f1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo coffeetabletoottomanconversion_zps975f72f1.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/coffeetabletoottomanconversion_zps975f72f1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You can see the pieces of foam ready to go on top, which are then covered with a layer of wading. You can either staple the wading to the edge of the coffee table top (if there is enough space), or the underside. I've done both and both work out just fine.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/upholsteredottoman2_zpsd7e39d05.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo upholsteredottoman2_zpsd7e39d05.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/upholsteredottoman2_zpsd7e39d05.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<br />
I know some people fold their corners, and if you're not a sewer, or don't have a sewing machine, you can definitely go this way. I like to sew mine as I think it finishes them off nicely. Then it's just a matter of attaching the top; getting it tight enough but not too tight! I fold my fabric over underneath before stapling to ensure a nice finish rather than raw edges.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/upholsteredottoman3_zps95e4d487.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo upholsteredottoman3_zps95e4d487.jpg" border="0" height="325" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/upholsteredottoman3_zps95e4d487.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So I guess this is a case of stick to what you know. And love. I think these really make a statement and for a free coffee table I think the effort is definitely worth the outcome! If you'd like to see my other ottomans, you can see them <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/coffee-table-to-ottoman.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/another-upholstered-ottoman.html" target="_blank">here </a>or <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/coffee-table-to-upholstered-ottoman.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

So I was doing what I often do - surfing Pinterest and eating chocolate when I read a pin about Random Acts of Kindness. This particular story was about a man who overheard a mother telling her child she couldn't afford to buy him a bike and so handed her $350 and told her to go get one. We've all read a million of these things, but I decided sitting there in my pj's that to get out of my funk I'd join in.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/randomactsofkindness_zps8fefe04a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo randomactsofkindness_zps8fefe04a.jpg" border="0" height="265" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/randomactsofkindness_zps8fefe04a.jpg" width="400" /></a> </div>
<br />
I didn't have a plan (as I often don't) and I also didn't have $350. But the first opportunity presented itself quickly enough. At my local Coles supermarket there is a lovely lady who works at the self serve counter who is ALWAYS smiling and chatting to customers. Every time I come through she chats to Emma and Harry, makes sure they don't run out of the store (as they are prone to) and is generally nice to be around. So as I left, I handed a little box of chocolates in at the front desk, asking the staff member to give it to her when I had left, and included a little note that wished her a great day and thanked her for her kindness.<br />
<br />
I can't tell you how good that felt. I didn't wait for acknowledgement or thank you, but just knowing that it would make her smile made me feel on top of the world. So that was Monday. Tuesday I made some cookies and anonymously left a plate of them at Emma's Preschool for the teachers to share. This was a hard one, because people are always coming and going, and unfortunately they caught me out at the end of the day and I had to admit it was me who left the cookies. Not quite what I imagined, but nice to show them I appreciate what they do. Wednesday was a little harder because I wanted to do something again for someone that I didn't know.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I printed off a bunch of inspirational quotes (these are free printables you can find here; <a href="http://www.overthebigmoon.com/we-are-going-to-do-something-extraordinary/" target="_blank">extraordinary</a>, <a href="http://pullingit2gether.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-max=2011-08-22T09:56:00-04:00&max-results=25" target="_blank">rain </a>, <a href="http://www.designerblogs.com/you-are-my-sunshine-free-printable" target="_blank">sunshine</a>) on photo paper and stuck them in envelopes and into letter boxes. Some were people I knew, some were people I didn't. I love mail and I thought it was nice for people to open an envelope to find it wasn't a bill or marketing stuff but something to make them smile. The one friend (hello if you're reading this Sally) who I tried this out on was so curious about who left it for her that I admitted it was me. For the others, we drove round looking for houses that looked like kids lived there. Emma and Harry would be staring out their car windows and suddenly yell out 'Ball!" or 'Swings' and I would pull over and drop the envelope in their letterbox.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/rideoncollage_zps3b95a6ad.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo rideoncollage_zps3b95a6ad.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/rideoncollage_zps3b95a6ad.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Thursday we left $2 on a couple of the ride ons outside my local Kmart. I can't tell you how often I get to these, having promised Emma and Harry they could have a ride, only to find I didn't have any coins. So, I left some behind. The family that used one were riding while we had our lunch - I could hear their oldest girl saying 'This is amazing!' and 'I can't believe it's free!!!'.<br />
<br />
And Friday we bagged up books and clothes that I'd been planning to sell on Gumtree or eBay and took them to a shelter in Gosford. Some were new things we'd never used or read, others were used but in great condition. What the shelter didn't take we took to a local op shop.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/836_zps161f6be3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 836_zps161f6be3.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/836_zps161f6be3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And you know what? I felt better. Sure the things that were on my mind at the beginning of the week are still there, but I <i>feel better</i>. I'm not sharing for applause, I'm sharing cause it was fun and it might be something you could do to. And Emma and I had a great conversation about giving to people who don't have all the 'things' we have, and about doing things for people without needing something in return.<br />
<br />
So no real Thrifty Thursday today, just something that's been going on with me that I wanted to share. Hope it makes you smile...<br />

Part of the haul were two of these chairs... there is probably a professional name for them (I think they're Windsor chairs) but I call them kitchen chairs. They've sat around for a little while, but I finally got on to the first one of them a week or so ago...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/greyandwhitechair2_zps3dc95674.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo greyandwhitechair2_zps3dc95674.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/greyandwhitechair2_zps3dc95674.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
I really wanted a heavily distressed look for this chair, so I used home made chalk paint and then went crazy with the sanding. I seem to go through stages, and distressed is my stage at the moment ;) And I think it suits this style of chair, with all her curves I think the peak of wood through the paint works well.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/greyampwhitechair3_zpsc46fc089.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo greyampwhitechair3_zpsc46fc089.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/greyampwhitechair3_zpsc46fc089.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I went with a faded grey and white stripe for the seat which I love. I have enough of the fabric left over and am tempted to do the other one the same. We'll see :)<br />
<br />

<br />
For the locals I thought I should mention that I won't be heading to Avoca Beachside Markets this month. I needed a rest from churning out enough pieces to fill my stall in the month, and decided to give my sister a rest too. Bronwyn has come to almost every market since I started, driving over an hour to get here, help me pack the two cars, listening to me get nervous and second guessing everything, spending the day, packing up at the end of it, and then driving home again. I definitely wouldn't be able to do it without her help, and I know it takes up a whole weekend for her. THANK YOU BRONWYN!!! So I'll still have pieces for sale on-line, via my <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/p/for-sale.html" target="_blank">For Sale page</a> or my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PaisleyVintage" target="_blank">Facebook Page</a>, and I'll be back again in July.<br />

I keep telling myself not to pick something up unless I love it, so I've come home empty handed this week in terms of furniture.<br />
<br />
But I did pick up this ginger jar...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/gingerjar_zps6527d0df.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo gingerjar_zps6527d0df.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/gingerjar_zps6527d0df.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<i>Check out that orange pine!! This is the dining table I often moan about... when Emma and Harry are a little older it's outta here! </i><br />
<br />
Anyway, the terracotta is not my thing, so I painted it. Bet you didn't think I'd do that right? All about changing it up here...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/gingerjar2_zpsc04bd498.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo gingerjar2_zpsc04bd498.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/gingerjar2_zpsc04bd498.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
Two coats of ASCP Provence and she's looking a little more my style. I love these, and have seen them in so many homewares stores, but at $100 + they aren't in the budget. Lucky me, I found this one for $8 :) I will have to find a spot for it where little hands can't touch it! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/retrolightfitting_zps22d3d69f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo retrolightfitting_zps22d3d69f.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/retrolightfitting_zps22d3d69f.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I also picked up this cane light fitting for my entry. We've been in this house for 2 years and I just couldn't stand the metal pencil holder thing any more, and then I found this. For $2. Bargain! The entry is STILL a work in progress - the mirror and table on the right need some work (ie paint) and I think I want a new rug, but it will get there :)<br />
<br />
Just as I've been writing this I've seen something on Gumtree and I'm going to have a look at. Cross your fingers for me...<br />
<img src="http://signatures.mylivesignature.com/54489/300/B7AE534303F68405CACE78D95894819E.png" style="background: transparent; border: 0 !important;" />Catherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09848137973036581423noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6578693482811986796.post-43707408062237051652013-06-03T06:53:00.001+10:002013-06-12T17:53:34.390+10:00Making Junk Look Amazing - a mirror makeover using dark wax!Last week I shared the mirror I'd picked up from someone on Facebook. There are a few local groups for people to sell stuff they don't want any more, and I've found a few smaller items through them, though often they've not quite been what I expected. This mirror was no exception...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/mirror_zps7c2235b7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo mirror_zps7c2235b7.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/mirror_zps7c2235b7.jpg" width="314" /></a></div>
<br />
The ad said it was a vintage goldy / brown mirror and I snapped it up immediately. I didn't look much at the photo as I was looking for a few smaller items for the market stall I was getting ready for. When I picked it up, well goldy / brown was actually orange pine. Oh well, lucky I can paint!<br />
<br />
Part of the carved piece was broken so I had to do a little repair work first. As my <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/provence-dresser-my-first-chalk-paint.html" target="_blank">dresser project</a> used less than a third of the tin, I decided this girl could use a little Annie Sloan Treatment too :) I painted on two coats of paint, fairly roughly as I wanted a little texture on the rim.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/mirror1_zps588b661f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo mirror1_zps588b661f.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/mirror1_zps588b661f.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the dark Annie Sloan wax and I think it turned out great. I read up a little as I've never used it before, and followed instructions (for once :) ) I applied one coat of clear wax and then applied the dark. I was tentative at first, but I loved the look immediately and so went to town! I love the kind of grungy aged look it gives it, it really made something beyond ugly look great :) I'm glad I tried it out first on something small, and something with loads of crevices. I think the wax makes the curves really stand out.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/mirror4_zps82ad94a5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo mirror4_zps82ad94a5.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/mirror4_zps82ad94a5.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
My favourite part by fair is the carved piece at the top. When I picked it the lady told me it had been hand carved, and you could tell from the shape of the groves that it had. But in orange it just looked terrible. In Provence with dark wax it looks like what I thought it was going to be - a vintage mirror.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/mirror3_zps68f9ccea.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo mirror3_zps68f9ccea.jpg" border="0" height="267" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/mirror3_zps68f9ccea.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I had this mirror tucked away in my lounge room for all of a day before she was snapped up by a lovely lady from Facebook. I was half inclined to keep her, but kept reminding myself that had bought her to sell, so should stick with it!<br />

I think we all have a little but of orange pine in our home, or in our history, I STILL have an orange dining stable and chairs (which we will be keeping while my children are small, and stabbing their fork into it when I'm not looking) and chest of drawers. One day...<br />

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ProvenceDresser6_zps2758cca7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ProvenceDresser6_zps2758cca7.jpg" border="0" height="323" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ProvenceDresser6_zps2758cca7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you've been following along you might remember that earlier this month I was offered the chance to try out Annie Sloan Chalk Paint now that is has arrived in Australia. I admit that I thought this was a hoax - I couldn't believe that someone would offer me paint, but a few weeks later the paint turned up and I couldn't wait to get started.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ProvenceDresser3_zpse1c8589b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ProvenceDresser3_zpse1c8589b.jpg" border="0" height="285" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ProvenceDresser3_zpse1c8589b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The dresser I worked on was actually in quite good condition, just very dated. I did NO prep work for this other than giving it a clean. The Chalk Paint was thicker than I expected, but so easy to work with. I decided I wanted a stronger paint colour so I did two coats, and then used a wipe to distress.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ProvenceDresser4_zpsd6f27afc.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ProvenceDresser4_zpsd6f27afc.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ProvenceDresser4_zpsd6f27afc.jpg" width="261" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how this turned out, the colour is so gorgeous. For someone used to either undercoating or making up a batch of home made chalk paint, this was really easy. Sure the paint might be a little more expensive on its own, but when you consider the saving on undercoat, and your prep time, I think it works out great.<br />
<br />
The colour is Provence, a gorgeous turquoisey aquay hue that I love. I took this piece along with me to a local market on the weekend and I can't tell you how many people commented on the shade. EVERYONE loved it. I also received some wax, both clear and dark. While I love the paint, the wax <i>really</i> impressed me and I wouldn't go back to my basic stuff again. Application was super easy and the end result is great.<br />

<br />
I had such a hard time finding just the right knobs for this piece - I bought and sent back three different sets before I was finally happy. I think these lovely ceramic ones are just right :)<br />

<br />
I'm sure this is old hat to my US and UK friends, but for us Aussies, this is a big deal. If you want to try some out for yourself, Australian stockists are listed <a href="http://www.anniesloan.com/acatalog/Australasia_Stockists.html" target="_blank">here</a>. They also offer classes too. I'd love to visit one of the Sydney stores soon, as I think some more of those Annie Sloan blues have my name on them. :)<br />

I had cleaned out the car, I had clothes made for carrying furniture, I had cash. What I didn't have was an open op shop. I drove half an hour to my favourite shop only to find they were closed for a grey nomad conference. ARGH!!!<br />
<br />
Luckily Harry was asleep so I drove to a shop closer to home, but without the great prices. I did come home with this though....<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/lampbase_zps5d5957e6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo lampbase_zps5d5957e6.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/lampbase_zps5d5957e6.jpg" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course the shade has to go, but I really love the base. I won't paint it, for some reason I don't feel the need to, but will probably take it along to the market this weekend and see if else loves it too.<br />
<br />
The other lovely I picked up was this...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/wallmirror_zps4f9154a1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo wallmirror_zps4f9154a1.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/wallmirror_zps4f9154a1.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<br />
I walked past it a couple of times, unconvinced, and left it completely when Harry pulled all the VHS tapes off a shelf nearby, but came back eventually and decided that she should come home with me. And check out the wall paper on the back!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/wallmirror2_zpseb388ca9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo wallmirror2_zpseb388ca9.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/wallmirror2_zpseb388ca9.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I think I'll take her to the market too - and if she comes home again I know just where she's going to live :)<br />
<br />
Speaking of the market - these two are just about ready to go...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/tieredshelves_zps3e9b2ef5.jpg.html" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo tieredshelves_zps3e9b2ef5.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/tieredshelves_zps3e9b2ef5.jpg" width="270" /></a><a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/greyandwhitechair_zps692eef58.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo greyandwhitechair_zps692eef58.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/greyandwhitechair_zps692eef58.jpg" width="274" /></a> </div>
<br />
While you're here - I'd love to hear from anyone who had bamboo flooring. We are wanting to get rid of all our completely disgusting carpet in the living rooms and are considering bamboo. If you have it, or have looked at it, I'd love to hear what you think...<br />

Of course I took all of them, but the one that really caught my eye was this girl.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/ThriftyThursday172_zpse19e3d14.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo ThriftyThursday172_zpse19e3d14.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/ThriftyThursday172_zpse19e3d14.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The lady had great intentions (don't we all) but never quite got round to giving them a makeover, so she was passing them on. And I was VERY happy to takeover. The chair sat in the garage for a little while as I thought about fabric - the pale blue velvet had to go, but I quite liked the white frame (though it needed to be re-done). Lucky for me I went to the local <a href="http://paisleyandpolkadotthreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/weekend-wanderings-destash-market.html" target="_blank">Destash Market </a> and found the perfect fabric for her. It is such soft linen and such a great pattern, I just wish I had more! And here she is now...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintagechairmakeover_zps367e5910.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintagechairmakeover_zps367e5910.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintagechairmakeover_zps367e5910.jpg" width="264" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the style of this old chair, the arm rests get me every time. I used a home made chalk paint and then distressed, and used Annie Sloan Wax to seal it. Can I tell you, I LOVE this wax?! In the past I have just used furniture wax I could get from Bunnings, and while it did the job, the smell was strong and I knew I could find better. When I got the chance to try out Annie Sloan Chalk Paint now that it's here in Australia I received some wax along with it, and it is SO much better. Yes I got it for free, but these are my own, honest opinions. I bought a special new brush to apply it with and I'm really happy :) <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/Paisley_Vintage/media/vintagechairmakeover3_zps9c1e7263.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo vintagechairmakeover3_zps9c1e7263.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t674/Paisley_Vintage/vintagechairmakeover3_zps9c1e7263.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
This girl is destined for Avoca Beachside Markets this weekend. I was tempted to keep her as I'm still using a dining chair at my sewing table, but as I'm still not sure how I'm going to style the room I've decided I'll take her along and see what happens. If she sells so be it, if not, well she could have a home with me.<br />
